Review of Studies on Sustainability of Public-Private Partnership Projects: A Bibliometric Analysis

Eoin Reeves (ed), University of Limerick, Ireland

Original study by Haytham Besaiso, Moheeb Abualqumboz, Xinyue Cheng

The authors of this paper assert that research on public-private partnerships (PPP) projects has increasingly focused on their sustainability, reflecting the growing global emphasis on sustainable development.  This study therefore conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of literature on the sustainability of PPP projects, aiming to map the intellectual structure, key themes and emerging trends in the field.

The paper begins with a comprehensive review of earlier studies that also reviewed extant literature.  The authors conclude that most earlier reviews were ‘systematic literature reviews’ that were based on qualitative methods that were potentially open to interpretation bias.  They assert that there is a clear need for a bibliometric analysis that systematically maps the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, dominant research streams, underexplored themes, emerging areas and knowledge gaps.
