A Year After Cancelled P3, Honolulu Rail Cutting Scope

For Hawaii’s beleaguered rail project, something had to give. And it now looks like that “something” will be Ala Moana station, the intended terminus of the line in downtown Honolulu. Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced the updated plans for the project last month. The updates propose removing the last two stations leading into downtown Honolulu, and a parking garage in Pearl Highlands intended for transferring commuters. While the reduced scope would only eliminate the last mile-plus of the project, that segment is both the most challenging to build and the most important for the project’s economic viability.
