What does it take to build a new freight railroad line in the United States? It has now been more than three decades since the last one. Soon, the Uinta Basin rail P3 in Utah may give us an answer to that question: an intervention by the U.S. Supreme Court.
In March, the public sponsor for the Uinta Basin rail P3, the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition, petitioned the Supreme Court to hear the project’s case. In April, the Court will decide whether it will take up and review the case. The Uinta Basin project is currently under an injunction from the D.C. Court of Appeals over the project’s environmental study under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
